Our patron: St. Francis of Assisi

Giovanni di Pietro di Bernardone OFM, known as Francis of Assisi, was an Italian mystic and Catholic friar. He was inspired to lead a life of ascetic poverty as an itinerant preacher. He was dedicated to Christian charity and is one of the most venerated figures in Christianity. St. Francis is known for his ministry to the poor and the underprivileged, his care for nature and animals and for founding the Franciscan order. He was the son of an affluent cloth merchant. St. Francis of Assisi lived in wealth and ease until God used a meeting with a leper to change his heart. St. Francis died on 3rd October, 1226 in Assisi, Italy. He was canonized by Pope Gregory IX on 16th July, 1228
